Ranchera is a traditional style of music from Mexico. The typical Ranchera act would be one performer with a guitar. The Ranchera style of music developed as a symbol of a new national consciousness in reaction to the aristocratic musical styles of the period. Influential Ranchera artists include Cuco Sanchez, Rocio Durcal and Jose Alfredo Jimenez.
