Originating in the Dominican Republic, Bachata mixes Cuban sounds, afro elements, and Latin/Caribbean Rhythms. Today's Bachata groups incorporate more contemporary sounds, often switching the traditionally used acoustic guitar for its electric counter-part. The genre has sky-rocketed in popularity over the years and is considered to be as popular as Salsa and Merengue.
