A product of late-night jam sessions, Bop (or Bebop) was developed during the 1940s by New York musicians who wished to make a departure from their swing predecessors and take a more radical, harmonic approach to Jazz. Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk are all considered major contributors to the Bop idiom. --eveningmelancholy
