Gangsta Rap first had commercial success out of South Central Los Angeles with N.W.A (Niggaz Wit Attitude) and Ice T. The lyrics were usually an autobiographical view of the youth and their neighborhoods, exposing L.A.'s daily gang violence to the rest of the world. When N.W.A. received airplay on MTV's "YO MTV RAPS" they attracted a young suburban crowd fascinated by the rawness of N.W.A.'s look, sound and, of course, attitude. --chadior
