Step 3: Get the Tools
(Step 1 2 3 4 5)

You'll need to have the following programs installed on your computer. All of them are free (and you only have to load and install them once. Yay.)! Remember … after you download them, you'll have to follow the instructions for each one to install them onto your computer.

A good tip: Bookmark this page. Some of the download instructions ask you to restart your computer. Bookmarking this page will make it much easier for you to continue after a restart.

1. Winamp 5.0 Player
(or newer; download)

Winamp is an online audio player that plays Live365.com broadcasts. It is also a broadcasting tool that you can use to transmit your MP3s through Live365.com.

If you broadcast with Winamp, you'll want to make sure that you configure Winamp to stream track metadata to Live365. To configure Winamp, do the following: First, open WinAmp. Then click Options > Preferences and select Titles under General Preferences. Make sure that the "Use Advanced Title Formatting When Possible" checkbox is enabled. The "Advanced title display format:" field should read "$if2([%artist% - %title% - %album%],$filepart(%filename%))". Click Close and then begin your broadcast.

2. SHOUTcast DSP Plug-in for Winamp
(download)

Hint: When prompted, save this file to your desktop or to another location on your computer. Don't click "open this file."

After downloading, you'll need to unzip or extract the file and save it in the right location. Here's how: When you extract this file, you will be prompted for a location. Find your Winamp folder on your computer; it should be in the "Program Files" folder on your C drive. Click to open the Winamp folder and you should see a "Plugins" sub-folder. Open this folder and click "Extract."

You know this worked if a "Dsp_sc.dll" file exists in your Plugins Folder.

3. Live Input Plug-in for Winamp 2.05
(or newer; download)

(Optional: this is required only if you plan to broadcast live audio through your line-in jack, e.g. via a microphone or a sound board, or DJ mixing equipment. Otherwise, you don't need this.) Similar to #2, you'll need to extract this file and save it to the "Plugins" folder in your Winamp folder.

If it works, you'll find the file "in_lrec.dll" in that location.

4. A Phillips-head screwdriver, a power drill and a 1/4 socket wrench
(just kidding).
