Step 4: Set up your Tools (cont'd)
(Step 1 2 3 4 5)

3. Selecting the Format

a. Press the "Edit" button next to Format to pop this window open:

format selection

b. Leave the Name and Format categories alone. These will be set correctly by default.

c. Set Attributes – The Attributes setting controls the quality of your audio broadcast (measured in "bitrate"). Choose an Attributes setting close to your MP3 bitrate (the bitrate at which you ripped your CDs to MP3s). An Attributes bitrate setting higher than your MP3 bitrate will cause your broadcast to skip.

Hint: If your listeners complain of skipping, one thing you can try is to set the Attributes to a lower setting.

Here's a guide:

Your Internet Connection Attributes
T1, Cable, DSL, ISDN 56 kBit/s
56 Kbps 32 kBit/s
33.6 Kbps 24 kBit/s
28.8 Kbps 16 kBit/s
14.4 Kbps 8 kBit/s

d. Once you've found the bitrate that you want to transmit at, hit the "OK" button. You should see the following window.

shoutcast source

You have now configured your SHOUTcast plug-in.

4. Turn on your server

Go to Broadcaster Controls to make sure your Live365.com broadcast server is on. (We automatically turn off your broadcast server if you are not broadcasting.)

5. The magic moment: Connect

Now, the big test... hit "Connect".

shoutcast source

If you see the message "Source stream connected", you're now directly connected to Live365.com's super awesome streaming audio servers.

The SHOUTcast source window will remain on your screen. Winamp will not allow you to close the window, but you can minimize it. Just one more step: you'll want to direct the Live365.com audio servers to the audio you want to broadcast.
