There are several things to take into account when delivering our Logo for Print Media: Logo Style, Print Resolution, File type, File format, and pixel size. We also have Proportion, Font and Color specs that MUST be followed at all times when printing our logo. Make sure that whomever will be printing our logo is aware of these.
When dealing with Print Media, we deliver logos in two different file types: Bitmapped images and Vector images. The basic differences between the two are that bitmaps have a fixed pixel size and cannot be scaled up without loss of quality. Vector-based images are not tied to pixel sizes and can be scaled to any size without loss of quality.
Another important factor is color mode. For print media, our color mode is CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black). This means that the entire spectrum of colors is made by combinations of those four colors.
Bitmap formats used are .PSD (Photoshop Document) files and .TIF (Tagged Image File). Photoshop documents are structured in layers, which means any color background may be inserted. TIF files are flattened (no layers) and can be opened in virtually any graphics application.
For vector-based files, we deliver .EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) files. These files can be opened in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Freehand, CorelDraw and any other graphics application that supports EPS.
Bitmap graphics are constrained to pixel sizes and print resolutions. Print shops will usually request that your graphic be in either a 300 DPI (dots per inch) or a 150 DPI resolution. We have provided both for your convenience.
Also, we have a variety of dimensions for you to choose from in each resolution. Bitmap files come in sizes ranging from .5" to 4" in width.
