N. Mark Lam

N. Mark Lam serves as Chairman, Executive Committee and CEO of Live365.com.
With thousands of broadcasters and millions of listeners worldwide, Live365 offers greater breadth and depth of music than any other site on the internet and is the world's largest internet radio network featuring broadcasters such as Atlanta Symphony, Pat Metheny, David Navarro, and Santana as well as many music taste makers.
Within two years of becoming CEO, Lam turned Live365 into a profitable enterprise after it had burnt through $60 million. Prior to joining Live365, Lam secured additional funding and advised developing a new business model as the former lead advisor to Live365. Previously, Lam specialized in forming global alliances and solving business and legal problems for international high-tech companies. His clients included Philips Electronics, Hon Hai Precision (ranked #2 in 2005 Business Week InfoTech 100 with over $28 Billion in 2005 revenue and is one of the largest investors into China), and Foxconn Int'l (one of the hottest blue chip companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange) in which he litigated IP claims as well as advised, negotiated, and consummated deals which contributed significantly to their success and rapid growth.
Earlier in his career, Lam worked at GM/Hughes, Geneva Company, the leading middle market M&A firm in the 80s, and Dynafund, an international venture capital firm.
In 2000 and 2004, he served as a Presidential Elector and appeared on CNN, Good Morning Asia and the BBC. In 2001, he joined a delegation invited by leading Chinese universities and major T.V. stations in five cities including Beijing and Shanghai to lecture on China's joining the WTO and its impact on China's media industry. He was also a speaker at the inaugural China and the Internet Conference in 2003.
Lam has published over 50 articles in prominent journals and newspapers in Asia and the United States including the Harvard Business Review (read) and has been invited to speak at UCLA, USC, UC Irvine and the California State Bar Education Institute as well as CES, National Assn. of Broadcasters, Global 3G Forums, and Milken Global Conference. He also served as a lecturer for MBA classes in global management and alliances at the UC Irvine Merage School of Business. Lam just completed a book by McGraw Hill - China Now (website) - with Professor John L. Graham, an authority in international marketing and negotiation, on doing business in China.
In 2006 Lam testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of Digital Media Association (DiMA) and Live365 on the Perform Act bill on "Parity, Platforms, and Protection: The Future of the Music Industry in the Digital Radio Revolution." (download).
Lam received a B.A. from Hamilton College, a J.D. from University of California Hastings College of the Law, and an M.B.A. from UCLA Anderson School.
Ara Hovanesian
Vice-Chairman, Executive Committee
Ara Hovanesian serves as Vice-Chairman, Executive Committee for Live365. He has provided consulting services to Live365 for the past two years and has assisted the company in achieving its current level of success. He is currently responsible for overseeing financial, legal, and administrative functions for the company.
Prior to joining Live365, Hovanesian has maintained a law practice, is a certified public accountant, and has been a successful investor. His law practice specializes in corporate business matters.
Hovanesian served as a director and vice-president of a publicly held company. He was responsible for mergers and acquisitions. During his tenure, the company grew from specializing in ownership and real estate rentals to operations in residential real estate construction, title and commercial insurance and escrow services in locations throughout California.
Hovanesian was a key participant in the formation of an organization that played an instrumental role on program initiatives on the "war on poverty" in Los Angeles County. He later became the organization's executive director with a staff of 380. He was responsible for program operations conducted through 97 sub-contracting agencies with a combined payroll, oftentimes, totaling 10,000 employees. Additionally, he conducted contract negotiations and served as a liaison with local, state and federal agencies.
Hovanesian received a B.S. degree in accounting and management from UCLA and a J.D. from Loyola University in Los Angeles.
Raymond Barrett
Director, Web Development
Raymond Barrett serves as Director, Web Development for Live365. With more than 25 years experience as a commercial graphic designer/multimedia developer, he is responsible for the Live365 web site and software front-end functionality including web development, web engineering, user interface design, user experience choreography, graphic design and art direction.
Before joining Live365, Barrett founded Imagine Avenue, a multimedia design studio in Los Angeles. During his eight years with Imagine Avenue, he worked with a wide variety of technologies in the areas of commercial printing, technical illustration, streaming audio/video, scoring/sound for picture, web development, and e-commerce.
Barrett studied mechanical drafting and design technologies and has extensive knowledge in computer science and typography.
Johnie Floater
GM, Media
Johnie Floater serves as General Manager, Media. Media is the alchemy of desired content reaching a targeted audience for brands and organizations that want to connect with them. His role leverages the significant assets of the business, technology, and content components of Live365.
The 365 opportunity combines four of Johnie's personal passions and key business experience: radio, international, public service, and entrepreneurial.
His participation in radio has spanned from his first high school job at a commercial Top 40 station, WLAV AM&FM, to his being the first Business Manager at the respected KCRW, National Public Radio, Los Angeles, to his becoming the General Manager at Radio Express. There, he was responsible for international syndication of network programming from ABC Radio to music and production libraries from TM Century and FirstCom. With 10,000 current radio stations and a platform for ten times as many, Live365 is radio heaven for Johnie.
Although born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Floater developed his solid international foundation while he was a student at UCLA where his classmates hailed from over 45 countries. Radio Express provided Johnie opportunities for business travel to some 40 plus countries frequently. As VP, International at Eagle River Interactive, an early acquisition of Agency.com, he led international strategy from M&A through integration, sales and fulfillment. At one point, he had visa stamps of 64 countries in his passport.
His love for public service began early on with school and club participation to teaching and librarian positions after college. He spent seven years as lead organizer for communities in diverse cities such as Chicago, Grand Rapids, and Santa Monica and was involved with local to national issues including park improvements to a U.S. anti-redlining & disclosure law to food co-ops and community banks. What attracted Johnie to KCRW was its role in providing a wide range of music and topics not carried by the hundreds of other Southern California stations. He sees Live365's global broadcast platform as an inexpensive access to the "airwaves" for all as a core mission of Live365.
Each of the startups Floater was involved provided him a deep entrepreneurial cross functional experience including strategy, finance, technology, legal, human resources, operations, marketing, and management. As VP, Incubation for the Rare Medium Group, a NASDAQ internet venture and strategy company, he was responsible for over $50M in investments and 250 employees for the group's seven majority held incubators.
He has presented at numerous trade and corporate conferences including CES, MIDEM, MIP, and NAB.
Floater received a BA with dual majors in Mathematics and Psychology from Aquinas College. He also holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management. He was Valedictorian for not only his undergraduate, but also his business school class.
Dr. Jonghyun Kahng
Director, Advanced Development
Dr. Jonghyun Kahng serves as Director, Advanced Development for Live365. With more than a decade of database, software engineering, and management experience, Dr. Kahng manages the overall infrastructure, server, and database components for the company.
Prior to rejoining Live365, Dr. Kahng was Development Manager at NexTag, a leading online comparison shopping service. In his last position, he was responsible for implementing new features to the site's search engine including enhancement of product management tools and optimization for Internet search engines. Dr. Kahng had also worked at Oracle as a Senior Member of Technical Staff in Server Technologies, at Live365 as a Senior Software Engineer, and at Korea Airlines as a Database Administrator/System Programmer.
Dr. Kahng has published articles and co-authored chapters in physics and computer science journals, proceedings, and books.
Dr. Kahng received a B.S. in physics from the Seoul National University in Korea. In addition to earning a Ph.D in physics from Ohio State University, he also earned a Ph.D in computer science from the University of Southern California with Dr. Dennis McLeod, a pioneer in objected oriented and federated database systems.
Jason Stoddard
Director of Broadcasting Sales
Jason Stoddard serves as Director of Broadcasting Sales at Live365. With over six years of direct business to business internet broadcasting experience, he is responsible for overseeing Live365's Professional Broadcasting department. He has sold broadcast services to the likes of Red Bull, Mercury division of Ford Motor Company, the Smithsonian Institute along with hundreds of other businesses and organizations. Mr. Stoddard has been instrumental in assisting the growth of the Professional Broadcasting department since he joined Live365.
Prior to joining the company's Professional Broadcasting department, Jason managed the Technical Support Department and helped grow and support Live365's impressive tool set and client base. Prior to joining Live365, he worked at Southwest Airlines, San Diego Vacation Rentals and Realty Consultants, and Hyatt Corporation.
Mr. Stoddard has extensive computer knowledge and skills relating to internet broadcasting.
Jason studied Psychology and Communications at San Diego State University.
C.T. Teng
General Manager, Asia Pacific
C.T. Teng serves as General Manager, Asia Pacific for Live365. He is responsible for bringing Live365's music offerings to Asian Pacific countries while at the same time bringing Asian music onto Live365's global music platform. Mr. Teng is a world traveler and maintains key relationships with top high-tech companies, ISPs, wireless carriers, and music distributors around the world, especially in Greater China and Japan.
Mr. Teng comes to Live365 with a strong high-tech background. He began his career with HP Taiwan as a system engineer and then become the sales manager of Honeywell Taiwan. After obtaining his MBA and working for Wickes in the United States, he became the General Manager of Groupe Bull, Greater China, and grew its business from practically nothing to over US $60 million in less than a decade. He then became the General Manager, Greater China, of Tandem Computers, and CEO of other regional high tech companies.
Mr. Teng holds an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School and a BS degree in Nuclear Engineering from the National Tsing Hua University of Taiwan. He also attended Advanced Management seminars on Technology and Strategic Innovation at Stanford University and Human Capital Development at INSEAD.
John Toupin
Director, Engineering
Mr. Toupin manages the engineering and web development departments. He has over 20 years of experience in software development and engineering management and has worked with a wide variety of technologies. Prior to joining Live365, he founded InfoMediate, an Internet Information Delivery System software provider. Prior to this, he founded Fusion Software, a consulting firm that provided full service development to Silicon Valley high tech companies such as Collabra (now Netscape), Apple and Cygnus. Prior to Fusion, he worked at MARC Analysis Research Corporation in the WordMARC product division.
Mr. Toupin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Brown University.
