Internet Broadcasters Have a New Place to Call Home
Foster City, California, June 7th, 1999 Nanocosm, Inc., creator of unique, rich media personal Web services, today announced the first live Internet broadcast of Live365.com. Live365.com is a fresh new Internet service that offers music lovers a place on the Web to broadcast and share their favorite content...for free! The Live365.com offering is the first of its kind in the growing industry of online broadcasting. With the advent of the MP3 file, music has migrated from CD's and cassettes to the World Wide Web. Now, in addition to sending out tunes via radio, DJ's utilize MP3 files and web servers to create their own on-line broadcasts. Until now, this has been a very costly proposition for independent DJ's. Previously, they had to purchase large amounts of server space upon which to post their Internet broadcasts. This limited the size of the listening audience and the DJ's overall exposure. Live365.com steps into the mix with a unique and aggressive offer...give a huge amount of server space and multiple broadcasting data pipes to Web DJ's at no charge. In developing this position, Live365.com sought out many of the Web's top "netcasters", and will work with these charter members in further evolving this innovative product. Initially, each netcaster will be given 100MB of free server space along with up to 100 data streams upon which to broadcast. This "grassroots" approach will lay the ground work for more diverse offerings in the future for general web users. "What we present to the Web broadcaster is a package that has never before been offered at this level," said Alex Sanford, CEO for Live365.com. "The vast amount of server space and listener capabilities we provide will allow broadcasters to reach much larger audiences. Additionally, it paves the way for broadband community-building opportunities." The Live365.com service will initially provide users with access to streaming MP3 servers and varied community functions. The service will quickly expand to include support for broadcast of streaming video, animation and other forms of self-authored rich media. Live365.com broadcasts use industry standard formats and are compatible with popular MP3 players such as Nullsoft's WinAmp and Sonique 1.0. Live365.com (http://www.live365.com/) is the second presentation of user-authored Internet services by Silicon Valley-based Nanocosm, Inc. Nanocosm's mission is to provide individuals with easy to use tools and a community-based environment to create, publish and experience rich media content on the Internet. Its first product, NanoHome, allows users to create interactive personal web spaces within a rich, 3D atmosphere.
