Rappers Nation has a two-fold purpose: to provide a platform to be heard and a financial mechanism for the hip-hop musicians that are being locked out of the music business; and to support a culture that is being criticized and ostracized by its own community leaders.
First, lets talk about the need for more outlets for Hip-Hop artists. There are four "major labels" that dominate recorded music - Sony Music Entertainment, EMI (Electric & Musical Industries Ltd.), Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group each of which consists of many smaller companies and labels serving different regions and markets. In the past it has been almost impossible to compete with them because the two tools you need to launch an effective CD campaign (distribution and advertisement) are extremely expensive.
Recently through digital down loads the need for distribution of physical media has been greatly minimized. Stars and no name artists alike have sold millions of digital downloads.
Rappers nation is dedicated to answering the other part of the puzzle; advertisement! In the past, the big four have relied on traditional radio and TV to accomplish this goal, but these methods are exclusive because of their high cost. Rappers Nation is convinced that internet radio and local cable TV advertisement can accomplish the sales of thousands of music downloads.
We are going to shake up the record industry until the big four's strangle hold has crumbled!
Why do we need to support rap culture? Uncensored Hip-Hop represents the way a culture communicates. It also describes the deep seeded feelings people have towards themselves and society. To criticize their choice of words and attack their messages is callus and ineffective.
When are we going to learn that you can’t change things by standing on the outside while making demands? When do we realize that ostracizing people alienates them and pushes them further away from society instead of inviting them in? When are we going to face the undeniable truth that you can’t change things from without, you can only change things from within! Lets look at some of our greatest leaders. Martin Luther King didn’t stand apart and demand from afar that racism must end. He instead demanded to be apart of this country, to make the constitution for all, to make the common rights taken for granted by some the standard for all. His life and legacy are still changing this country today. Richard Nixon went to China and parlayed with the Chinese on their turf, acknowledged them as a world power with which we wanted to align ourselves and it culminated in the world supporting China in the 2008 Olympics. I could go on but enough said. The first step to real change is acceptance. Rappers nation will always support uncensored Hip-Hop and we too wait for the day when that cultures words and messages are more in line with mainstream. But until that day we will continue to support their expression and help them uncover the naked truth about who we are.
You can support this station and its artists by going in our back door (http://www.rappersnation.com), going to the top of the page and clicking on the "click to launch" area. The page will change and five to ten seconds later the music will start playing. In a big box on the upper right hand side of the page, you can buy the artists songs while they are playing for $0.99. The artists have asked us not to solicit donations; they want to pay their way. I hope you will support us in this endeavor.
Sincerely
Richard J. Brown Jr.
