About Me
I'm a former rock critic and musician, currently teaching HTML at a college in Seattle. I've been in quite a few bands, done my time in many recording studios, and reviewed a ton of music over the years. I also worked at a radio station for several years, so when I found out about Live365, I knew I had to try it out.

Favorite Artists
The Posies
Melodies that make a chill run down your spine; harmonies that cause it to melt. The best power pop band of the 1990s; one of the best ever.
The Beatles
They started it all for me. My mother played A Hard Day's Night over and over when I was still in the womb. Does that explain anything?
Elvis Costello
He's grown and changed through the years, but seeing him live recently made it crystal clear -- the man KNOWS what to do with his instrument -- his voice.
Neil Finn
Split Enz, Crowded House, or solo -- always worth listening to.
Michael Penn
It's a shame he's released so few albums. Each of them is wonderful.

The Posies

Amazing Disgrace
Many Posies fans didn't like this one, but I thought it was a great combination of Dear 23 gloss with Frosting on the Beater noise.
The Posies
-
Failure
The one that started it all for the Posies. Hearing this was falling in love.
Elvis Costello
-
Trust
A perfect collection of pop growing to be something more.
Jellyfish

Spilt Milk
On a first listen, I didn't like it as much as its predecessor, Bellybutton. But after a few listens -- wow. Talk about hooks that won't let you go! They could do the harmonies live, too. Why, oh why did they have to break up?
XTC
-
Skylarking
This album is a midsummer day contained in one CD. A friend called it "pastoral" -- that about covers it.

Great collection of Pacific Northwest pop bands over the years. Check out his book, "Loser," a history of Northwest music.
bgspradlin
More jangly pop, at a lower resolution so more people can listen! Good station with a similar playlist to d23.
popmerchant
WCLO has a good selection of power pop.
drewm
Scandinavia seems to have a ton of power pop bands -- Drew features them all.

It's not power pop related, but it's my own personal site. Enjoy.
