I'm an ex-army brat, born in Texas. I lived in Germany for 8 years where I graduated high school in Berlin in 1974. I became a professional bass player after returning to the US in 1976, and toured with various hotel bands extensively until 1982 when I became interested in computer programming in Dallas, TX. In 1988, I was relocated to Vancouver, WA by Software Support Int. for whom I wrote an anti-copy protection/disk utilities package for the Commodore C-64 and Amiga called "Maverick", which was a great success. When the bottom fell out of that market, I moved back into business programming and am now employed as a systems engineer specializing in the IBM I-series (AS/400), Citrix Metaframe and my company's awesome data-mining application called "Minepoint" (http://www.minepoint.com).

Favorite Artists

Weather Report & Jaco Pastorius
The only jazz band that consistently rings (and swings!) my bell. I wish they had put out 3 times as much stuff as their 10+ albums. I'm hoping for a release of some previously unreleased live material this summer from Sony and maybe the long-awaited official Jaco Pastorius "early years" chronological collection by his best friend from his teen years who taped a lot of Jaco's early work.

Herbie Hancock
Master of funk, smooth, traditional, and bebop keyboard.

Jeff Beck & Eric Johnson
Awesome guitar. Tasty indeed!

John McLaughlin/Mahavishnu
Wild, intelligent and sometimes downright spiritual.

Steely Dan
Best overall vocal/pop/rock/jazz group of the 70's, 80's and now the 00's! Congrats guys on those long overdue Emmies. BTW, I saw them live at the Gorge in George, Washington in the early 90's. They rocked!

Favorite Albums

Weather Report - Night Passage / Weather Report ('82)
Just blows me away. I can still hum the odd melody of "Night Passage" from memory. "NYC" and "Madagascar" also have the oddest harmonies that just stick in your head. Not to mention the unforgettable bass playing of the late, great Jaco Pastorius.

Stanley Clarke - Journey to Love / School Days
Two definitive 70's fusion albums by one of the greatest electric and acoustic bassists of all time.

Medeski, Martin and Wood - Shack-man / Combustication
Best acid-groove keyboard trio around. Catchy, funky and to the point. I like all of their releases but these two standout.

Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius and Bob Moses - Bright Size Life
One of the most awesome examples of the jazz trio at its finest. A must-have for any jazz library. Haunting, unforgettable and awe-inspiring. Metheny's BEST work, period.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame/ Birds of Fire/Lost Trident Sessions
These three releases are what fusion was/is all about. You either get it or you don't.
