I am a singer-songwriter from Exeter, Devon and I've been writing songs since my teens.

Along with recording and performing under my own name I am also in a duo called The Vending Machine Heart and you can hear my music at www.stuartwills.com.

I've played at many venues in the South West of England, and in doing so, have had the opportunity of see performances from many singer-songwriters and bands based in the region.

It has always struck me how many talented artistes there are in the South West. I really hope that Radio Free South West will get their music to more ears.

Favorite Artists

Nick Drake
Nick Drake wrote beautiful songs and was a stunning guitar player.

Kathryn Williams
Kathryn Williams is an awesome live performer, a great songwriter, and she has an amazing voice.

John Martyn
John Martyn is a guitar genius. Solid Air and Bless the Weather are two of my favourite albums with great soulful songs.

Joni Mitchell
Joni Mitchell is a legend just for her Blue album alone. I’ve not heard another album that is so emotionally engaging as Blue and her musicianship is stunning throughout.

Denison Witmer
Denison Witmer is a great guitarist and singer-songwriter. He’s not well known just yet but his catalogue is well worth investigating. His last album ‘Are You a Dreamer?’ is a favourite.

Favorite Albums

Teenage Fanclub - Thirteen
This album has such a beautiful melancholic vibe. The songs are really strong and have The Fanclub’s trademark harmonies, chiming guitars and some heartbreaking lyrics.

Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
Soulful, funky, authentic – total genius.

The Beautiful South - Blue Is the Colour
Melancholic and beautiful songs. One of my favourite albums for lyrics with Paul Heaton on top form.

Imagine - John Lennon
Genius! It doesn’t get better than Just Gimme Some Truth.

The Lemonheads - Car Button Cloth
A really powerful, melancholic, ragged album which conveys a lot of truth. You can really imagine what sort of place Evan Dando was in when he wrote these songs.
