Duran Duran
The first band that really pulled me into music on a deeper level (when I was still but a wee lad), their album RIO is one of my favorite albums of all-time, and even today Duran Duran puts on one helluva concert -- not to be missed!
The Strokes
Their body of work has been rather mixed to me honestly, but 2011's ANGLES was such an amazing album that it pretty much catapulted The Strokes into my Top 5. If you don't own it yet, get it! Now!
Arctic Monkeys
These guys came out of nowhere into my music library in the summer of 2008, I had never heard them prior to that. They quickly became one of my top 5 favorite bands. Amazing vocals, killer British rock, for my money right now nothing touches the Arctic Monkeys.
emmet swimming
A not-so-well-known band out of Virginia that still plays live shows locally every year (I finally saw them live in late 2008), Emmet Swimming is named after Emmett Till, an origin that is worth checking into on Wikipedia when you get the chance. Although most of Emmet Swimming's music leans more to the melancholy, there is a strong, perservering undertone in most of their songs as well. On top of that, these guys hopped on board for the soundtrack to Hollywood 27's film PYRITE, recording the original song SAME AS ME -- which you can hear quite frequently on the station!
The Black Keys
These guys have really impressed me, and I wish I had started listening to them earlier in their career. El Camino is my favorite new album of late 2011/early 2012, and I've been playing it over and over without tiring of any of it.
