My interest got started from listening to the "Sat. Night Dance Party", on a college station(back in the day). They played an eclectic mix of synth, euro, industrial, and rock- that was danceable.Then I got into house, mixes and trance. Then came reggae. After I became a Christian, I discovered "latin sounds" and now reggaeton & grime.
The only "format" is that it should be danceable, and from Christian artists. Also I prefer stuff with vocals, but if I think a song that's instrumental or with minimal vocals is really creative, I'll play it.
