Favorite Artists

Frank Sinatra
chairman of the board.. monumental contributions thru several decades..

Louis Armstrong
great Crooner & trumpet player.. Pops changed the way jazz was played.. and he endured for 50 years.. his "Satch plays Fats" and "Plays WC Handy" are classics.. can be heard here..

Tony Bennett
still going - his "Sings Ellington Hot n Kool" must be heard to be believed - hear it on Crooners..

Billie Holiday
she just didn't record a poor trak.. made even silly songs sound poignant.. made her players sound even better..

Ella Fitzgerald
first lady of jazz. made her own breaks.. shines on Crooners esp. with her Verve work with Louis Armstrong..

Favorite Albums

Louis Armstrong - Satch Plays Fats
Satch at his best in the 50's, with a small all-star group and Velma Middleton

Louis Armstrong - Satch Plays WC Handy
Satch at his best in the 50's, with a small all-star group and Velma Middleton. Restored version has interviews with WC Handy, and hilarious rehearsal traks.

Frank Sinatra - Swing n Dance
rare Frank between Recording Labels. Superb.

Helen Forrest - Big Bands With Benny Goodman
I'll take any BG disc with his female vocalists.. sweet vocals, hot solos.

Billie Holiday - Lady Day-Prez 1937-41
Hot, sweet, duets featuring Lester Young's lyrical tenor sax, and Billie's poignant voice. great support from Count Basie rhythm and alumni Buck Clayton, Sweets Edison.

interesting guy, great collection of 1920-30's music and other quirky sound bites from that era..

Our sister station, for Preferred Members. a great mix of hot instrumentals (+vocals), featuring smaller swing groups (Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Django), plus Bix and the Big Bands. Restored versions of great jam sessions.
