The first record I ever called my own I stole from my mother - a 45 of Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire." At the age of 5, I would open my bedroom window, place my cardboard record player on the sill, and crank up that record for the neighbors. Not much has changed.
I'm a native of Pineville, Louisiana. I moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1998 to start up LouisianaRadio.com with my brother and father. It was one of the first internet radio stations online, and we broadcasted Louisiana's music 24 hours a day.
In 2001, I went to work for a weekly newspaper here in town, which began my decade in journalism. Last year, the University Press of Mississippi published a collection of my features about Louisiana personalities, Angola to Zydeco: Louisiana Lives.
Since 2009, I've been teaching English and writing at the Episcopal School of Acadiana in Cade, Louisiana. I also try to keep up with my family and my kids and keep Gumbo Radio running.
