MR. TREATS BEATS
Yo Yo- Thanks for checking out my RADIO STATION, MR. TREATS BEATS! I got the nickname MR. TREATS when I lived in Fort Wayne IN with some other bike riders. For two years I lived with at least 12 roomates at any given time. We were all bmx riders from different parts of the US, definitely NOT living FAT! I always liked buying snacks and junk food. Ho Hos, Twinkies, Chocodiles, and swiss cake rolls were my friend. My roomates started calling me MR. TREATS. Maybe I was rebelling from my guidelines as a kid to limit my intake to "ONE SWEET PER DAY" by the army of two, better known as my parents. One sweet a day just wasn't enough! I had to sneak a treat or two! So that's the story of my nickname. I grew up in a small town in INDIANA about 45 min from Fort Wayne. Our town had 1 high school, 1 McDonalds, and 1 radio station that played the oddest mix of old 50's crap and top 40 mayhem. It's weird because they still play the strangest mix ever to this day! I always thought it sucked! Computers and the internet were far off in the future. My Dad had an 8 Track player in the car, so the radio was the only source for new music. Man was I psyched when Radio Shack came out with the CASSETTE adapter. Unfortunately for my Dad, I think I was the only kid who liked rap in our town. Once 5th grade rolled around, I was already BLASTIN Kurtis Blow out the BOX! That and an occasional Michael Jackson THRILLER track! I always had a huge BOOMBOX and my friends and I would try to breakdance in our parachute pants on the playground, while the other kids played kickball and messed around on the monkey bars. When I saw TURBO bust out his routine in the movie BREAKIN, I went from wanting to be an NBA BASKETBALL STAR to a MOONWALKING, BREAKDANCING FREAKAZOID! We were serious about it too...at least for 2 months! Thank the aliens for creating cassette tapes! So compact, yet durable and you could make your own mixes for the first time ever! My first cassette was LL COOL J "Radio", and ROCK THE BELLS was my favorite jam! Shortly after that came NUCLEUS, UTFO, RUN DMC, and the FAT BOYS as some of my very first cassette titles to enter the collection. Thanks MOM!! I remember how stoked I was to listen to the stuff I had on CASSETTE compared to listening to the CRAP on the radio. The FREEDOM to CHOOSE something different than CORPORATE RADIO is a great thing! Not only that, but the music was coming out of my ghetto blaster at a high level of volume pissing off all the old people! Something about listening to music loud enough for other people to hear it that I always liked. It was an entire juvenile delinquent experience! I was the DJ, regardless if anyone liked it or not! The pic of me in the yellow BUDWEISER shirt was taken in the spring time at CARLIN PARK ELEMENTARY School in 5th grade for being a SUPERSTAR, which basically meant improving my grades, and not getting into trouble. This photo (aprox. 1980)was placed into a trophy case at the school along with the other superstars from the other grades for everyone to view. Now days you couldn't go to school wearing that shirt, or they would send you home before second period. I got that shirt for FREE in Daytona Beach FL while on spring break just a couple weeks before that picture was taken for picking up a record number of aluminum cans out of the trash, and redeeming them for this wonderful prize. It was so worth puttin my head into those nasty trash cans to get as many beer cans as I could! At least it makes this photo more enjoyable than if I were wearing a boring shirt! So here I am many years later creating my own radio station. Funny thing is, now I live in Orlando FL, just 45 minutes away from where I got that ugly yellow shirt! Even though I live in a much bigger city now, FM RADIO STILL SUCKS! While technology has changed us all for the better, some things stay the same! All that's left to do now is get some TREATS, TUNE IN THE BEATS, and take a seat. Over and out! Enjoy! MR. TREATS
