Created in 2004, WHPS was the brainchild of Jim Chandless and Mike McFarland, two technology teachers at Hopkinton High School in Hopkinton, MA. Thanks to the grant writing prowess of Ellen Russell, the radio station was funded by a generous grant from the Hopkinton Education Foundation (HEF). WHPS first went on the air in 2005.
Originally created as a capstone class to provide students an opportunity to gain valuable business experience by managing the day-to-day operations of a radio station, WHPS has transformed into a one semester radio production class that emphasizes the tools and techniques needed for creating high-quality audio productions.
