I have always enjoyed listening to classical scores from motion pictures. After watching Star Wars in 1977 when I was a kid, I bought the soundtrack on vinyl (remember that recording medium?!). I listened to the album so many times that I could instantly describe any scene in the film from a 5 second clip! Since then, I have collected many soundtracks and now feel very fortunate to be able to share them with you.

Favorite Artists

John Williams
Arguably, the greatest film composer ever. Williams' scores not only accompany the on-screen action, they help define it and shape it.

James Horner
Master of sweeping orchestral scores. Horner has a flair for composing themes which evoke the grandeur of magnificent vessels and stoic heroes on fantastic voyages.

Jerry Goldsmith
Prolific composer of popular film. Goldsmith can bring out the extraordinary of commonplace events and characters.

Hans Zimmer
An extremely gifted composer who can evoke may differnet emotions from great sadness to heart-pounding fury. He has composed for films as diverse as Gladiator and The Lion King.

Danny Elfman
Master of scoring the macabre. Elfman's scores are unique and multi-faceted. An electic mix of styles and catchy melody lines that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Favorite Albums

John Williams - Empire of the Sun
Not only my favorite John Williams score, but my very favorite score of all time. This stirring score defines what a score should do for a film: help us experience the emotion of it. The music foretells danger; expresses the main character's longing for flight; captures the innocence of youth; and thrusts upon us the gritty realism of a WW II internment camp.

James Horner - Titanic
The magnificence of the ship and the splendor of its interior are juxtaposed with the longing of Rose and the struggle of Jack. The score is moving, filled with awe, and full of terror at the same time.

Hans Zimmer - Gladiator
An epic score which runs the gamut of emotions from intense chaos to bitter sorrow. He matches Ridley Scott's awe-inspirinly striking visuals with equally intense passages.

Randy Edelman - Dragonheart
An intensely enjoyable score with sweeping dramatic passages; heart-pounding pieces filled with danger, and light-hearted frolic. I actually enjoy listening to the score by itself than while watching the movie.

James Newton Howard - Dave
This soundtrack is just plain pleasant to listen to. Forget all your worries, put this disc in the player, and enjoy this masterpiece with a glass of fine wine!
