As a kid, I was always interested in radio. From 27 miles south of downtown Chicago, I DX'd stations like CKLW-AM, WABC-AM, and shotgunned stations like KHJ-AM late at night. I also DX'd commercial and pirate shortwave stations from North America and the world. WLS-AM was my inspiration and motivation for going into radio. I was on the radio for the first few times on several of John Landecker's "Boogie Checks" in the 70's. Woo-hoo!
Well, I landed an on air gig at WHFB-FM in Benton Harbor, MI (1988-1992) and then WJTW-FM in Chicago/Joliet, IL (1992-1996). Through those years and beyond, I was also an owner of my own mobile DJ service, with over 1200 successful gigs to my credit. After "retiring" as a mobile in 2009, I decided to make use of the records in my collection and the chart knowledge I had. And that's how I got this "station" on the "air".
I'm a lifelong vinyl record collector with having owned close to 200,000 singles (45's), thousands of albums, cassettes, mini discs and CD's over my lifetime. I may also have as many as 400,000 songs in .mp3 format. I still go to about a dozen record swaps a year, because I can never have enough music in my vinyl collection - heh.
After "retiring" as a mobile, I began working on this station as an alternative to the everyday oldies station that you hear. The result is this vinyl-driven format called "OffTheCharts!"
Currently, I'm a financial/investment professional with a wife, daughter, dog, cat and turtle, living outside of Columbus, Ohio. Along with this hobby station, I do voiceovers and audio production on the side.
Thanks for listening/visiting to my hobby station. Enjoy the music from my vinyl collection!
