Latin Quarters

About Me

Formally the host of the tropical station "Son Del Caribe" on 89.9 WKCR in NYC (79-81) and at Live365. After 25 years involved with salsa-merengue music, I have decided to switch from this excellently covered genre on Live365 to share the affection I have with my second child - Latin Jazz. Growing up in New York exposed me to many sounds, you just had to open your ears to hear them - Machito, Puente, Getz, Mongo, Dizzy, Barretto, and the young sounds of Valentin and Torres round out the experiences that include Fajardo, Lavoe, Harlow, Celia and the other tropical masters. In the rich tradition of NYC stations WBGO, WKCR and the old Riverside Broadcasting Group, I share with you the love I have for this genre, as when Ray Barretto used to come up to the studios of WKCR to play his personal record collection during the early '80s. When asked which genre I enjoy the most, as is the case of any man with multiple children, I love them both equally. - Luis A. Soto (latin.quarters@hotmail.com)
