I live in Portland, Oregon where I am a physician specializing in Internal Medicine. I am an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University where I primarily practice hospital-based medicine.
I developed a passion for college radio while in high school and college in Ohio in the late 1980's. Be sure to check out WOXY in Oxford, OH. At the time I lamented that such an incredible variety of music was never heard by the vast majority of radio listeners. It seemed that such quality music only needed a more accessible outlet and it could have displaced the mulititude of crappy classic rock stations that dominated radio at the time. However, I was wrong. Nirvana's Nevermind broke "alternative" music into the mainstream in 1991. This commercial success made record companies take notice. However, what seemed like the opportunity for this incredible music to finally be recognized, was only an opporunity for the mainstream to coopt the music's image. Alternative became just another corporate genre of homogenized crap.
Left of the Dial is my attempt at creating what I always envisioned would be my ideal radio station. Enjoy.
