About Curtis Kastner

One afternoon back in summer of 2002, I was formally introduced to deep house by my (then) next-door neighbor Nguyen, an extremely talented DJ. I told him I was looking for more of a swank & sexy chill sound like Randy Crawford's 'Chill Night Mix' of George Benson's "Give Me the Night". After he heard "Give Me the Night", among the songs he spun from his vinyl collection were a few classics from Naked Music, like "Music and Wine" from Blue Six and "Breakin' it Down" from Miguel Migs. I've been hooked ever since. Funny thing is, I had heard that sound before - yet I never knew what to call it, let alone how to find it, until that day. What I appreciate most about deep house, downtempo & nu jazz is that it's an underground scene all about the MUSIC - it's not about MTV videos, tours sponsored by Pepsi, etc. SwankLounge was created to share that love & passion for the 'polished cocktail vibe' to the world, just like my neighbor did with me that summer afternoon. SwankLounge will always have "Give Me the Night", "Breakin' it Down" & "Music and Wine" on its playlist as a tribute to that initial conversation with my neighbor - if it wasn't for those three songs, this station wouldn't exist. A lot of time has passed since then, but the love for music never changes: I went to see Nguyen spin at 944 Magazine's 5 Year Anniversary GlamSlam Party on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Ivy Hotel in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. His set was incredible - and a reminder why I love this music so much. Thanks for listening to SwankLounge! CK
