I have collected Jazz Violin recordings for close to thirty years. Since many of these classic recordings are hard to find I've started a radio station featuring my favorite Jazz Violin recordings using Live365.com's service. The music range from early swing by Joe Venuti, Eddie South, Svend Asmussen & Stephane Grappelli through bebop by Harry Lookofsky & Jean-Luc Ponty (including his classic LP from 1967 Sunday Walk) to fusion by Michal Urbaniak and free/modal by Zbigniew Seifert. Seifert, a personal favorite of mine, set very high standards for that style that in my opinion have never been surpassed. Of the swing tracks I included some very rare duets between Svend Asmussen and Ulrik Neumann. On two cuts Asmussen uses the 4 string technique pioneered by Joe Venuti where the stick of the bow is under the violin and the bow hairs therefore touch all 4 strings simultaneously. The classic concert recording, Violin Summit, from 1966 with Stuff Smith, Stephane Grappelli, Svend Asmussen and Jean-Luc Ponty is also included. In addition I feature what as far as I know is the earliest recordings of a Jazz String Quartet: Erik Moseholm presents Jazz Strings 1958, a Danish recording featuring Svend Asmussen.
