Broadcaster Comments
I like all sorts of music (much of it by men!), but I wanted to do a women's music show because of the large quantity of great music by women that has either fallen through the cracks and been forgotten (The Slits, Liliput) or has been unjustly reviled (Yoko Ono). And so much of the women's music that HAS become popular has either been excessively bland (the Lilith stuff) or has succeeded because of a one-dimensional anger, usually over being dumped ("You Oughta Know"). I try to play music by women that is challenging, fun, spirited, and completely unconcerned with rules or decorum. Most of it is punk or riot-grrrl related, though I also throw in some older stuff (blues, gospel, rockabilly, 60's garage). I never broadcast live, but occasionally update. Feel free to send me any comments or suggestions. P.S. I was disappointed to find out that Sleater-Kinney will be breaking up (or going on "indefinite hiatus"). One of the reasons I chose my particular format was because it let me play a few of my favorite groups, S-K foremost among them. I am sure they will continue to make great music separately, though.
