The music industry has become greedier than ever and the Copyright Royalty Board ruled a minimum $500 fee per channel per year. They even had the audacity to make the fees retroactive. Live365 is being cool about it and trying to pay for it by increasing ad frequency, and is currently fighting the ruling, but I've come to my own conclusion on what I should do since I don't believe they'll win the appeal, and I really don't like the music industry right now. Considering I was paying a little over $120 a year to run RPGFan Radio from my own pocket, I find the Copyright Royalty Board's ruling completely unacceptable, especially since the majority of the music played here is foreign, and I doubt the royalties went to the proper individuals at all. Their one-size-fits-all ruling is ridiculous and takes a giant dump over private broadcasters like myself who pay for this stuff out of our own pocket, receiving no revenue like commercial radio stations.
It was a good 6 year run, but unfortunately, it seems all good things come to an end. I will no longer be paying for RPGFan Radio. I could stomach $120 a year, but I have better things to spend $500 a year on. I'm sorry that things turned out this way, but I cannot afford the expense. As an alternative listening option, I recommend Gaming FM. It's not all RPG music, but it's good music nonetheless.
