In the early 1980's, I was a young man on a mission when I hosted Higher Power as a nightly radio show on WXLN FM-104 in Louisville, Kentucky. Major rock acts like Bob Dylan and Kerry Livgren of Kansas were in the vanguard of mainstream artists including Joe English, Rick Cua, U2, Mark Farner, Bonnie Bramlett, Maria Muldaur, James Vincent, Bryn Haworth, Cliff Richard and others who were bringing new energy & momentum to Christian rock. While the music was often innovative, "it had nothing to do with making money and everything to do with integrity and simplicity, delivered without pretension or ulterior motive in the sole hope of uplifting anyone who might hear it." That description of classic rock by Rolling Stone writer Fred Goodman is utterly true of early Christian rock. Whether our artists were American, British, Canadian, Irish or Swedish, the essence of the music was, as Bono would say, "three chords and the truth." I'm so happy to be able to bring these great songs and artists back to the air on Live365 in very nearly the same format that we programmed them on WXLN in the early 80's. The songs are heartfelt expressions of faith in the eternal Jesus who was and is the driving force behind Higher Power. For a deeper look behind the scenes, swing by www.higherpowerrock.com for vintage airchecks, artist interviews & the complete backstory to a great part of Christian radio history. MAY 2013 IS OUR FINAL MONTH ON LIVE 365 - THE COST & EFFORT TO PRODUCE THE SHOW HAS BECOME MORE THAN I CAN SUSTAIN. MANY THANKS TO ALL OUR LISTENERS DURING THE LAST 3 YEARS - IT'S BEEN A BLAST! -Rick Sparks
