About polka mike

I've had this station for almost 13 years now, since 2002. It was a free service back then and there were only a couple of polka stations that I had competition with. I was raised in South Texas. I grew up in the tiny town of Hungerford, Texas. It is located on Hwy 59 between Houston and Victoria Texas. My grandparents (Ed and Vlasta Sabrsula) exposed me to polkas and waltzes by going to dances, church picnic and festivals in the early 1960s. They bought a phonograph and several records. I listened to the Lee Roy Matocha Orchestra from Fayetteville Texas. He was a big and early influence and listed to all his radio shows every weekend. I went to a lot of their dances all over the state. As a teenager I attended the Big 3 Polka Dances with Lee Roy Matocha, Vrazel Polka Band and Joe Patek at the old Riverside Hall in East Bernard I introduced the bands before they started playing and have done so at several festivals. I begin writing stories on music around 1987 at the Herald Coaster Newspaper in Rosenberg Texas. My first interview was with Clay Blaker And The Texas Honky Tonk Band from New Braunfels Texas. I got to introduce them when they played at the Fort Bend County Fair in Rosenberg. I started hearing a lot of music after that. I started writing music stories for the Wharton Journal-Spectator in Wharton Texas around 1989. I had the title of Sports Editor. I was later named the Entertainment Editor and put together a music calendar. I also reviewed CDs of all genres. I also interviewed bands over the telephone, back stage, before and after shows. I wrote stories on the Bobby Jones Czech Band, the Dujka Brothers and Vrazel Polka Band. I've got hundreds of polka albums on 33 and 45 vinyl, CDs and mp3s. I collect polkas on vinyl and have recordings as far back as the late 1960s. I have over 300 songs on my playlist which totals up around 10 hours of continuous music. I also cajun and tejano songs and Christmas music in December
