Broadcaster Comments

First up, not all singers in this category really have blue eyes. As with Soul music itself, Blue-eyed soul has its roots in the 1920’s when white musicians performed the Blues then a relatively new Black American music format. Yes, even then some non-black people fell in love with the Blues enough to perform it. Of course not until the Blues splintered into R&B did the road get paved for Blue-eyed soul’s arrival. Fast forward to the 1960’s when Blue-eyed Soul was truly born. Soul music was taking hold of America and beyond (particularly Great Britain). Non-black musicians loved the new genre enough to compose and perform it. Over the years, certain names come to mind as definitive Blue-eyed Soul artists: The Rascals, Hall and Oats, Michael McDonald – you get the picture. As for the ladies, history will record Timi Yuro as the mother of Blue-eyed Soul with Dusty Springfield, Teena Marie, Renee Geyer, Lisa Stansfield and Joss Stone all deserving of the title "Blue-eyed Soul Queen". But why only women on this station? Well, do some research on the internet data bases; you will find that women have been shamefully overlooked in this genre. Not anymore. At least not by me. – Louie Franco
