If you're still listening to AM/FM radio, you may have heard some commercials recently about a new "Performance Tax" that broadcasters may have to start paying to musicians, artists and their label. They're using the word "tax" incorrectly with the intent of upsetting listeners enough to gain their support and assistance in defeating the legislation that's now in Congress. Broadcasters don't want to cut into their profits to pay artists a royalty for the use of their performances on the radio. Cable, satellite and Internet radio station owners (like myself) already pay these performance royalties. It's only fair that terrestrial radio stations (AM/FM) pay the same royalties that we do.
