I'm Fred McCormick, singer, songwriter, author and a few other things you needn't worry about. I'm deeply passionate about roots and folk and traditional music. What I play isn't the stuff you'd hear much of in the music press or easily find in your local major record store. But it's the kind of music which ordinary folk the world over play and sing among their own communities. It's little known about because the people who make it are too poor or too exploited or too marginalised or too isolated to be able to tell the world about its own music. The sounds you'll hear were, like as not, recorded in Irish kitchens, Louisiana swamplands, nomad campsites, or the steppes of Central Asia; anywhere where Mississippi sharecroppers, Carolina dirt farmers, Balkan shepherds or Hebridean housewives would come together to sing and to dance and to share their sorrows and compound their joys. Hope you enjoy the station. I upload a brand new programme approximately every month and the next one will be on-line in November 2009. Please send requests to Fredlive365@aol.com. If I've got it and it fits with the station ethos, I'll be glad to play it.
