Mom’s Kitchen Radio: Perfect With Grilled Cheese, Tomato Soup and Cherry Kool-Aid (Just add the sound of a slamming screen door and the smell of a Toni Home Permanent)
. They were called “middle-of-the-road” stations ... and they played a little of everything that wasn’t rock and roll: Frank, Perry, Rosemary, country, broadway, a bit of light classical. In the Sixties they were where you were most likely to hear Johnny Mathis, Herb Alpert or Bert Kaempfert. . It’s what Dad listened to in the car or the shop or the barn. It’s what Mom played in the kitchen—often over our objections—while we waited for the school bus. . Ultimately we won. Rock and its cousins claimed most of the radio dial. Middle-of-the-road vanished, and no one noticed. . Well, hardly anyone. We noticed, and we still remember. We’d never forsake rock and roll, but now we miss Mom’s Kitchen Radio, just like we miss her meatloaf and mashed potatoes. . http://momskitchenradio.com/
