Welcome to Afrocentric Sounds! This station focuses on Classical music composed or performed by the African diaspora. Afrocentric Sounds has a pretty eclectic program of music. The station reflects the influence of other music styles--Spirituals, Ragtime, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and other popular and folk music--on the creation and interpretation of Classical music. It also reflects the presence of Afrocentricity in Europe and the Americas. This will be a place where performance of Beethoven or Bach will reside comfortably with compositions by Joplin, Ellington, Bonds, etc. To learn more about this station, please visit the Afrocentric Sounds Web site. Images and brief data about performers and composers presented on the station are being added at http://pinterest.com/singin1/afrocentric-sounds/. My thanks to Judith Anne Still and William Grant Still Music for the donation of numerous recordings of works by composer William Grant Still as well as books In One Lifetime and Just Tell the Story about the "Dean of African American Composers." To learn more about or purchase these recordings, visit www.williamgrantstill.com or click on the recording as they play on the station. Want to know when new recordings and themes start on this station? Twitter me! Visit http://twitter.com/singin1. Thanks for listening to Afrocentric Sounds.
